What suits you best?

My role as a counselor is to make myself unnecessary—to help you take responsibility for improving your situation

Couples Counseling for One Partner

When one partner is unable to attend counseling (due to health reasons or any other circumstance), or if only one partner recognizes an issue in the relationship and wants to address it, I invite you to begin the couples counseling process with just one partner. This approach is both possible and beneficial.

The process of changing interpersonal dynamics can begin with a shift in behavior and thought from just one partner. This change will positively impact the overall relationship dynamic. As the other partner notices the positive transformations taking place, they may begin to believe in the process and may choose to join the counseling sessions.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is an empowering process focused on mutual emotional support, teaching, and practicing practical tools for healthy communication that strengthen both partners. These tools include constructive communication skills such as active listening, empathy, mutual encouragement, understanding one another—even in moments of disagreement, constructive criticism, and anger management. A key part of productive relationship dialogue is resolving conflicts in a constructive and fulfilling way. You’ll be surprised to discover that it’s possible to communicate differently, and it will become second nature.

At the core of the counseling process is a deep understanding that interpersonal relationships can be changed and that we can think differently about the behaviors that have caused difficulty in the relationship. Counseling requires honesty and the opening of an intimate connection between two people.

The foundation of counseling lies in the genuine desire of both partners to understand each other, to see one another as separate and unique individuals, to improve old relational patterns, to communicate in a better, more constructive way, and to learn how to resolve conflicts and grow from them. The counseling process takes place in an intimate atmosphere that respects each partner’s pace. Techniques include joint and individual conversations, role-playing, practicing tools, and more.
